Regency Romance Storybuilder

This builder is designed to help you construct a 19 or 20-chapter (plus epilogue) Regency Romance, from 50-70,000 words, depending on your writing style. It is geared to have sex scenes, but you can omit the sexual tension and scenes, though it will shorten the book (maybe around 40-50,000 words instead). It assumes you’ll have a British setting, but it can be adapted to another locale with some moderate research on the author’s part. A lot of the attitudes and norms of the time period were universal.

What Is Regency?

Regency romance takes place in the period of time from 1811 to 1820. Technically, it overlaps with the Georgian period, since King George III was the king. However, he’d gone mad, so the Prince Regent, George IV, was actually leading the country from 1811 when his father became ill until his death in 1820, when “Prinny” was coronated as the next king. As an aside, a lot of people hated the regent. He was careless with their money, cheated on his wife (whom the people generally liked), and lived a life of excess.

Ch. 1

FMC’s POV

This is the introduction chapter. You meet the characters, usually from her POV, but you can vary that as long as you tweak the builder. Ensemble characters are introduced as well, and the first meeting of the two usually happens by the end of chapter one.

Often, they dislike each other for some reason, or she’s been warned he’s a rake, or he’s heard she’s a bluestocking, etc. There is something that should make them undesirable to each other, but there is still a spark.
